Matt Noonan is a highly awarded, New Zealand born producer.
Matt is the Founder and Executive Producer of Curious Film, based in Auckland, Sydney, and Los Angeles. Curious Film has been around creating award winning work for 19 years and is proud have been a CarboNZero production company for ten years.
As a producer, Matt’s work has been recognised on a global scale. The film Hunt for the Wilderpeople (2016) premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and broke box office records in New Zealand. Turbo Kid (2015) was the winner of the Midnighters Audience Award at SXSW 2015 and featuring on the Official Selection list for SXSW 2015 and Sundance Film Festival 2015. Fantail (2013) premiered at Rotterdam Film Festival 2014 and received critical acclaim internationally. The short film Blue, won the Grand Prix at Cannes Critics Week 2011 and was nominated for the Cannes Discovery Award, as well as the Best Short Film at Brussels International Independent Film Festival 2011. Another short film, Night Shift (2012), premiered in competition at Cannes Film Festival 2012 and Sundance Film Festival 2013
In 2010 Matt established a boutique distribution division seeking out distinctive cinema, innovatively conceived, which will directly benefit from a bespoke, focused release and marketing strategy. Curious’s theatrical releases range from Winter’s Bone to Oscar winner, Ida. Recent acquisitions include Sundance hit The Fits and the Oscar nominated and Berlin Film Festival 2016 Golden Bear winner Fire At Sea.
Matt also boasts a strong background in advertising, having produced hundreds of television commercials with Curious Film. Many of these have been awarded the highest accolades in advertising, including the Humans Rights Commission/Clemenger BBDO Give Nothing to Racism which won golds at the Axis Awards, NZTA/ Clemenger BBDO Hello won a gold at Cannes Lion in 2016. NZTA/Clemenger BBDO commercial Blazed which was awarded 2 gold lions and 1 silver lion for Film Craft at the Cannes Lions Festival 2014.
Matt is a member of the Producers Guild of America. The New Zealand Institute of Company Directors , the Screen Producers Association of Australia and Screen Production and Development Association of New Zealand.
He is currently an executive producer on the following feature films, Celeste, The Empyrean, Heart and Bones, Strange Relations (New Zealand), Mummy Issues (New Zealand) and Warm Blood.
